With these words, the digital catch statistics in Graubünden was touted, which is now available to Graubünden fishermen for keeping fishing statistics the fishing app since the beginning of the 2018 fishing season. As the first canton in Switzerland, the survey was provided in the digital way. The interest in the mobile app was great on the part of the fishermen, whether old or young, and everyone was curious how the first years with the handling of this new survey will go. Likewise, an interactive catch statistics was introduced and is now a central communication and data point.
We met with the responsible persons Dr. Marcel Michel and Andrea Baumann from the Office for Hunting and Fishing Graubünden for an interview and wanted to know what experiences they have had since the introduction 3 years ago. What were the 3 reasons for using the app at the Amt für Jagdt und Fischerei (AJF) Graubünden?
What has turned out to be positive for AJF Graubünden?
What were the challenges on the part of AJF Graubünden?
What impressions/feedback do you get from your fishermen?
The rapid establishment (within 3 years) of the fisheries app as an equal form of catch statistics management (>40% of events recorded via app) attests to a significant added value of the app for fishermen and a correspondingly high acceptance of this tool. It is often the case that the negative experiences come to us and the positive impressions are kept to themselves. However, it is the case that those fishermen who are able to overcome their fear of this technology end up being enthusiastic about the app. There may be some minor problems, but these can usually be solved easily and quickly.
